Hendrik's family have farmed sheep on the Suurbraak side of the Tradouw Pass since the 1880s. They keep a small flock (about 600 ewes) of Dorper and Meatmaster crossbreeds, all free-range, all grass and fynbos-fed, all slaughtered locally at a small abattoir in Heidelberg.
Marie does the cuts. Their lamb is in our pies, our boerewors, the toasted sandwich, the Sunday roast when it's lamb. We get a whole lamb most weeks and break it down ourselves on Thursdays.
