We bought the farmhouse in 2019, opened the first room a year later, and have been figuring it out ever since.

Two cooks, two
green-fingers, one very
old farmhouse.

Linnea grew up on a farm outside Stellenbosch and Ben grew up in a flat in Sea Point. We met making bread in a kitchen we no longer work in.

The smallholding came up for sale at the end of 2019. Bigger than we wanted, smaller than we needed, in exactly the right place. We spent the first year mostly fixing the roof, and the second year mostly cooking.

Five rooms is the right size. Any more and we can’t cook breakfast ourselves, and that is mostly the point.

What we try to do

A few quiet rules.

Use what is in season, from as close as possible, and don’t pretend otherwise on the menu.

Beds should be made the way we’d want them made. Linen sheets. Tucked in.

If a guest needs help, sort it before they have to ask twice. Or once.
