The Lodge · About
A small lodge,
on a family reserve.
We took over the land in 2016, opened the first suites two years later and have been rewilding it, and learning it, ever since.
Pieter & Anja
A guide, a cook,
and one patch
of the Waterberg.
Pieter guided in the Sabi Sand for fifteen years before we found this place. Anja ran a restaurant in Joburg that she was quietly tired of. The reserve came up for sale at the end of 2016, overgrazed and tired, and we decided to take it on.
The first years went into fences, water and getting the game back. The lodge came second. We kept it small on purpose: five suites is the most we can host ourselves without it starting to feel like a hotel.
Pieter still leads most of the drives. Anja still runs the kitchen. You will meet both of us, probably on the first evening, around the fire.
What we try to do
A few quiet rules.
One vehicle per drive. You are never crowding a sighting or sharing the bush with a convoy.
The reserve comes first. We tread lightly, keep numbers low and put the conservation levy where it belongs.
Hosts you can find. We eat with guests, guide the drives ourselves and answer our own messages.
