Frequently asked

A few useful things.

The questions we get most often, answered straight. Send us anything not covered here in the form. We don't mind being asked.

How far in advance should we book?

Most couples book twelve to eighteen months ahead. Peak-season Saturdays (October – April) tend to go fastest. We hold one date per quarter for couples on a shorter timeline; ask.

Can we visit the estate before booking?

Yes, by appointment, weekdays between 09:00 and 16:00, October to June. Site visits take about an hour with one of us. Send us a few possible dates and we'll come back with availability.

What does "venue only" actually mean?

The price covers the venue itself: the spaces, the furniture, the accommodation, our coordinator. Catering, beverages, flowers, photography, music and the officiant are all booked separately. We have a list of trusted suppliers we share with every couple.

Can we bring our own caterer?

Within reason. We work most easily with the three caterers on our recommended list, who know the kitchen and the building. Caterers from outside the list need to come for a site visit beforehand. The kitchen has specific kit requirements.

Is there a corkage fee?

No corkage on our own estate wines, which we sell at cellar-door prices. R75 per bottle on wines you bring in from elsewhere. No spirits or beer corkage. Those go through our bar.

What's your wet-weather plan?

Every space has a backup. The avenue moves to the chapel; the dam moves to the werf hall; the werf hall is itself the ultimate backup. We make the call by 10:00 on the morning of, with you.

How big a wedding can you host?

A hundred and eighty seated for dinner in the werf hall. That's the hard cap. Two hundred and forty for cocktails. Smaller weddings work in any of the four spaces; the Intimate package is for under thirty.

Can our guests stay on the property?

Twenty-eight on-site beds across the Bride's House and five cottages. The Estate package includes all of them. For larger weddings we recommend the Tulbagh village hotel and three nearby guesthouses; we share the list.

Are children welcome?

Absolutely. The cottages have cots on request, there's a play space behind the rose garden and our team includes a kindergarten teacher who works the weekend nannies if you book in advance.

Are pets welcome?

Family dogs (one or two) on the day, on a lead, by arrangement. We have our own dog Rooi who is generally social. No dogs in the werf hall during the dinner service for hygiene reasons.

What's the deposit and cancellation policy?

25% of the venue fee secures the date. A further 25% three months out. The remainder thirty days before the wedding. Cancellations more than 90 days out are refunded less a 10% admin fee; closer than 90 days, the full deposit is non-refundable.

Do you do anything other than weddings?

Occasionally: small corporate retreats, family reunions, milestone birthdays. Always venue-only. Send us a line about what you have in mind.
