Red · Syrah / Mourvèdre / Viognier (5% co-fermented)
Helshoogte Syrah
Vintage 2020
Northern-Rhône inspired, made in the southern Cape.
Inspired by the wines of the northern Rhône, where Syrah is most often blended with a small fraction of Viognier and co-fermented for lift and aromatic complexity. We picked our Syrah on the morning of our Viognier and threw them in the tank together.
Forty percent whole-bunch fermentation, gentle extraction, twenty months in old 500-litre French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. A floral, savoury, peppery Syrah for cool winter evenings and the years that follow.
Tasting notes
Violets, white pepper, blueberry, smoked meat. Fine grained tannins, lively acidity, a long perfumed finish.
