Krans Old-Vine Pinotage

Vintage 2021

Bush-vine Pinotage the old way: small basket press, no rush.

Pinotage gets a bad reputation from people who have only tasted the bad ones. This is not one of them. Made from forty-five-year-old dry-farmed bush vines on the cool eastern slope, picked at moderate ripeness, fermented in small open-top tanks with manual punch-downs.

Basket pressed, transferred to old 300-litre French oak, aged eighteen months. Bottled unfined and unfiltered. This is a Pinotage that wants twenty minutes in the glass.

Tasting notes

Black plum, smoked paprika, dried fynbos, a touch of leather. Fine-grained tannins, savoury, the kind that opens up with food.
