A Sunday wedding in May, two ceremonies: one Hindu under the avenue, one Christian in the chapel. Sixty-four guests, two banquets, one extraordinary day.
Priya is from a Tamil family in Durban; Marcus is from a Cape Afrikaans family from Riebeek. They wanted both their faiths represented. We put a mandap under the avenue for the Hindu ceremony at eleven and the Christian ceremony followed in the chapel at three.
Catering was split: one banquet in the werf hall reflecting Priya's side, the second course reflecting Marcus's. Sixteen children at the children's table. The aunts made everyone dance.
The whole day ran fifteen minutes late and not a single person noticed. This is what we mean when we say "let it happen".
